The environmental factor that our government should focus is on how we can be more aware of Global Warming. Part of governing the city is not just about managing the political problems, but also maintaining a healthier environment for everyone to be in. For many years, global warming has been having more and more impact on our daily lives. But as a result, countless people are unaware of how global warming is harmful to our earth. Yet many of us also do not realize we are the ones who increased the cause of global warming from using our fancy vehicles and machines. Global warming does not only pollute the air of the earth but also creates many of natural disasters in the world due to the extreme changes of the weather. The nature and the human population are all suffering from different problems such as greenhouse gases, melting of glaciers causing the sea level to rise and change in agriculture yield. However, Animals especially are losing their natural habitat and day by day numerous species are suffering and slowly going extinct. These are some of the effects of global warming and this is a warning to us all, we do not want our environment to be destroyed. Fortunately, everyone can pitch in to help reduce the cause of global warming by reducing, reusing, recycling and using the car less. So let’s go green and spread the news of global warming to change our lifestyles to be more environmentally friendly.

Forestry and Nature
The environmental factor that our government should be concerned about is the forestry and nature in our communities. Many trees are being cut down to provide enough land for new housing developments. The plant life is being destroyed faster than it is being replaced. The oxygen that trees produce is needed by people and animals in order to live. However, we are breathing in more polluted air since the trees are disappearing. Humans breathe out carbon dioxide (CO2), which is absorbed and used by trees and plants for photosynthesis. Carbon dioxide is a potential pollutant and contributor to global warming. With fewer trees in the environment, more carbon dioxide is building up in our atmosphere.
Trees also give shade and cause rainwater to evaporate quicker. They give off moisture which helps cool down the earth as it is warming up at a high pace. When trees are cut down for the use of our resources, they should be replanted and grown again. More trees can help clean our water, air and soil. Slowly but surely, we will have a green, environmentally-friendly community!

Take Action!
The most significant enviornmental factor that our government should be concerned about in their upcoming Federal Election is the extremely high gas prices in our society, and the pollution caused by fossil fuels. The gas prices that we see in our societies nowadays is just absurb. They expect individuals to pay an average of 135.9 to 145.9 per litre of gas when all it's doing is slowly ruining our environment. It is worsening the rate of global warming and contaminating our air and water by it's pollution. Also, the use of fossil fuels create extremely harmful chemicals in which it falls down to earth as acid rain. Not only do fossil fuels generate acid rain, the chemicals also have a huge effect on wildlife animals and aquatics. It can cause the exctinction of animals and therefore it is slowly ruining our enivoronment.
Individuals, like ourselves, need to start thinking environmentally friendly and take action. We can start by picking up garbage we see around our neighbourhoods. Not only will that decrease the pollution in our society, but it'll make our neighbourhoods look much more cleaner and welcoming. Walking to places instead of driving can save a lot of money and gas. By not using gas as often, were slowing down the rate of global warming and animal extinction. The motto, "recycle and reuse" is highly important in saving our environment. People need to stop being lazy and start helping out. The government should definently consider all this into matter in the next federal election.

Effects of deforestation.
One of the most significant environmental factor that our government should be concerned with is the effects of deforestation. Deforestation has lead forested areas to be used for logged areas, urban use and wastelands. The destruction to the forests has reduced the amounts of animals living in the rain forests, which can possibly lead to extinction. Because of the exposure to the sun, the pace of evaporation quickens, thus causing the soil to lose moisture. Although, it reduces flooding or erosion, forests also provides us with medicine. The loss in forestry could lead to more trouble when irreplaceable source of new drugs cannot be found anymore. Not only has it effected the animals and plants, but it has also caused climate changes. The removal of trees has caused less of carbon dioxide and nitrogen exchange. Therefore contributing to global warming and causing the temperature to progress higher. Preserving of rain forests could reveal many more opportunities for medicine and also it would be really horrible if the next generation were not to have the opportunity to explore the rain forest.

How to publish...
Once you have created your own account, I must enable you to be an author on our class blogs.
You need to email me your email address and your blogspot account name. I will then send you an email that will give you instructions on what to do next.
Please post your answer on this blog, NOT your personal one. If you can't find your name either of the two blogs, let me know.
If you have any problems, contact me quickly.
Have a great weekend!

Question One
The environment has been a major topic of discussion in the past months amongst political leaders.
What is the most significant environmental factor that our government should be concerned about this Federal Election? Explain why you feel that way and explain what you would suggest to help fix the problem.
Your response is due Oct 14, 2008 (coincidentally, election day).
